Three streams of foreigners seek entry into the USA. Only one stream can be termed immigrants on a legal path toward citizenship. The other two groups are legal goal migrants (such as workers or students) and undocumented illegal persons. We will identify different groups within each of the three streams, discuss their economic importance, and show how these topics can be used in grades 5-12 history and social studies classes. Examples from other countries will be illustrated. Participants will come away with information and activities to use in the classroom.
