We are delighted to invite you to teaching economics and personal finance to grades K-5, meticulously designed and facilitated by Education Director, Colleen Gray, from the Minnesota Council On Economic Education (MCEE). This training will be instrumental in enhancing your ability to introduce and teach economics and personal finance to your K-5 students. Building from the morning session, the afternoon offers a blend of engaging lecture-style sessions and dynamic hands-on activities. It kicks off with a segment on resources and activities, providing you with a toolbox of instructional materials, online resources, and educational games to make your economics lessons interactive and enjoyable. We will then explore the intersection of economics and civics in the K-5 curriculum, illustrating how these fields combine to foster responsible and informed citizens.We will also delve into the intriguing domain of economics within children’s literature. We will share strategies for using children’s books written by BIPOC authors to introduce and discuss economic concepts, making economics more relatable for young minds. Finally, we will wrap up the day with a focused discussion on the key concepts covered throughout the sessions and a feedback collection session. Your insights and suggestions will be invaluable in shaping our future workshops. This training day promises to be an enlightening and practical experience that will transform the way you approach teaching economics.
